Advice needed re Boiler troubles please

Options
Hi there,

I have a Baxi Bahama combi boiler.

We had loads of trouble with it earlier in the year with the boiler turning itself on and off so water would go hot and cold when having a shower and heating would not stay on. One heat exchanger and system flush later we still had the problem, and then the heating side packed up all together, although this seemed to make the hot water run ok. Anyway as it was getting warmer and we had no money left we left it for a bit and recently got someone else in. A new PCB board and pressure vessel later we now have heating and hot water. BUT, the hot water is not very hot anymore. I have tried putting it to water only but no difference so it's not trying to compete with the heating if you see what I mean. It seems to be some kind of pressure thing because if I run a sink tap slowly then it gets hot, but if I turn it up full blust it is just warm. Showers are bearable but not hot, even at full heat and definitely less hot than before the heating side was fixed.

Also, if the heating is on, then you use the hot water, the boiler 'clicks over to hot water' (stops and starts), and then when you stop using the water it doesn't always click back to put the heating back on and you have to turn it off at the wall and back on again.

Has anyone got any ideas about this before I ring the engineer again. I have just received his bill (£427)so think he should pop out again before I pay it, but it would be nice to be informed about what it could be before he comes.

Thanks for reading this essay, any help would be appreciated.

  • Blimey - £427 !!! How much have you spent on it this year? How Old it?

Maybe worth looking at a new boiler?

Tell the engineer that you will pay his bill when he has demonstrated to you that the system is functioning correctly.

  • Hi

Divertor or flow switch. There's not much left really .

PS click on baxi and follow through to bahama to see parts. http://www.partsarena.com/baxi/System/index.htm

  • Thanks for the replys, is it the divertor or flow switch that is making the water less hot? Does this just need adjusting or probably replacing. Why is it less hot now that the heating is fixed.

    Thanks
  • Hi

Don't know !! Your first problem in the OP I thought was the divertor . Could still be.
    Let us know what happens.

Well it is winter and this is how combination boilers work - lower flow rate, higher temperature.

One easy way to see if any of your heat is being "lost" is to run a hot tap when the central heating system is completely cold, and whilst it is running feel the 22mm pipe on the L/H side of the boiler (as you are looking at it) and see if it is getting warm / hotter. If it is, then you have a new problem.
