Virgin Money current account application deferred

So I applied for the Virgin M Plus current account last week and my application is deferred with Virgin saying

A team member needs to go over your application in more detail. We will do this within two business days and you will be notified by email or text with a link to log in and see the decision.”

It’s been over two business days now and nothing. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Referrals can take time, depending on what other checks they need to make.

You could give them a nudge, or just leave it a few more days.

I applied for a VM account a few years back and got referred. They ultimately declined my application but from memory they got back to me within 4 or 5 working days. I'd just sit tight for the time being and if you haven't heard anything by the end of the week then probably get in touch.

Same here my Virgin M Plus current account  got referred and after about a week got declined.
The way how they approve a current account is still a mystery to me !!

Ms Descrabled and myself both used to apply at the same time for the Virgin current account and she was accepted and I was referred and then declined despite us both having Yorkshire (Penny) Bank accounts. Later she was always accepted and I was referred and then accepted. When we applied for joint accounts we were always referred and then accepted 3 to 5 days later when we both received an email suggesting that we complete the sign-up.
Ms Descrabled leads a charmed life and always manages to be accepted for all savings, credit card, and current accounts. Where as I (Mr Big) are occasionally declined.

Do you mean ‘referred’ as opposed to ‘deferred’? If so, it is likely to have been moved to a specialist underwriting team who would then manually look at your application, along with various other bits of information relating to AML etc.

Providing you haven’t been a victim of fraud or haven’t committed fraud or still have a BR/IVA or DMP showing on your credit file, you could well be approved but ultimately, like applying for credit- it is their decision whether to welcome you onboard or not.
If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.
