I heard this too and I think JV was being kind not to challenge this silliness....unless he meant a year's consumption for that task? IIRC the caller has a disabled partner who needs a warm environment so I have no doubt times are tough for them. Not being able to do basic maths is only going to make life harder for the pair of them...nursemolly said:Just listening to jeremy Vine on Radio 2 and a caller said he calculated it costs around £1.70 to use a toaster for just a couple of slices of toast !!!!
What do you all reckon.....
ThanksNo man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.1 -
This constant misinformation about energy usage is quite irresponsible, journalists appear to get confused between maximum power on an appliance and actual power drawn at any point in time.
Foodbank users feeling unable to afford to cook vegetables was I suspect the result of reading articles in the tabloids.
We use 1kWh a day max cooking, making drinks etc, 1.5kWh on the days we make bread, so 20p-30p a day1 -
Why arent callers challenged when they say something so wrong. It's how mass panic and hysteria can start. I had this same conversation with my husband last week. We were away and the local news was on. It was a feature on a food bank.
Comments were read out later, some were factually incorrect and misinformed, however they were read out, without any follow up.
How many people will now stop making toast as they heard on the radio.......

1.5kWh of electric is likely to be around 70p come October with the new single rate cap, unless you have a good fixed rate.maisie_cat said:1.5kWh on the days we make bread, so 20p-30p a day

The energy required to make a round of toast will still cost nowhere near that.Effician said:
