Thats what I thought..but the guy was certain of it....

  • An average 2 slice toaster is probably 750 watts, so used for a full hour that would be 0.75 kwh @ 30p per kwh that's 22.5p.

Therefore for 2 or 3 minutes that's roughly 1p to toast 2 slices

    That’s utterly ridiculous.
A toaster is about 1750 watts.
one kwh currently costs around 28 pence,  for simplicity say the toaster was 2kw so it would only cost 56p for a whole hour of toasting.  Less than a penny a minute.

I wonder if he was reading his meter wrong? My OH panics when one of the Offspring's in the shower; he sees the "per hour" price displayed & thinks that's what it's actually costing per shower!

2 slice toaster is 800 watts at Argos, 4 slice toaster is 1400 watts upward.

So if you are a small family, getting a 2 slice toaster might be worth it.

I think this is what he must have done..as when JV queried it the guy was adamant it was a correct calculation

According to my In Home Display I don't use £1.70 a day never mind for 2 slices of toast!  My total spend for July has been £55 inc Standing Charges for both gas and electric (gas is only hot water at the moment).
