Gift card scams

I recently got scammed.

My clubs computer was hacked and members all got the same email asking for a Google play gift card.

Don't know yet if I was the only dummy

Google now have a scam page which works in theory, takes a long time to complete, and you need pics of cards and receipts.

The Action Fraud site is out of action at the moment.

Am in a very long queue for my bank, the fraud dept might be able to get my money back.

If you didn't email the pin number, you are lumbered with the gift card, but there are sites where you can sell them.

Is there a question or are you just warning people? If it's the latter it would be helpful to have some details.. like whom did the email seem to come from? What was the reason given for requesting a gift card? I'm assuming it wasn't obviously a fraud as they caught you. How would you avoid getting caught again... or stop someone else falling victim.

Usually the impersonate the boss, manager, pr team. Story will change as to why but they maybe it  will be  along the lines of they are in the middle of a meeting and want to gift some gift cards to some of the team or something like that. I can't figure out how they cash out though. Only thing i can think is they sell them on on 3rd party sites. Seems like a lot of work as i doubt many fall for it? who knows 200 quid is a months wages to some nations so maybe it is
