Amex Direct Debit

Is it normal for Amex to not take the direct debit on the date they say they will? I got an Amex a few months ago and set up a direct debit to pay the full balance each month. Last month my DD was due out on the 3rd (non working day which explains it), but the balance on my account was reduced as if I had paid it on that day, and the payment didn’t actually come out of my account until the 5th.
I thought last month was due to the 3rd being a non working day. This month the DD was due out today however the DD hasn’t been taken nor is anything reflecting on my Amex account balance.

Yes, as long as it's not taken earlier than said.1

They sometimes process it later in the day, though I have never had it not be taken on the day unless it was a weekend, even if the funds take a day or two to appear on the account1

My Amex DD is ALWAYS taken a day or two (or three!) after it is supposed to be. I even get an email thanking me for the payment in advance of it being taken. There was a thread about this a few weeks ago.2

I wanted my DD to be at the start of the month and they said they can only do the 2nd or 7th, and anything else isn't really start of the month. So, I think your normal DD date is the 2nd.
I sometimes get a notification that my balance has been paid when the DD shows as pending in my HSBC account, so before the money's even been taken.
You should know that the DD is also taken a week or two before the due date, so if there's anything wrong, you still have time to correct. I don't think any other provider does it this way.0
