Washing machine too small?

Just installed a (nearly) new washer. On the final spin cycle I thought it was going to destroy half the kitchen, it was bouncing about extremely violently. Had to do an emergency stop.

What do I need to do to secure it please or clamp it please.

  • Could be many things… has the machine been levelled or does it rock, even slightly? We’re transit bolts put in place when the machine was moved and have they now been removed? If transit bolts weren’t put in place when the machine was moved, are you sure that the machine hasn’t been damaged during the move? What was in the load, was it something that would be really hard to balance, such as a single pillow?

How is it "too small"? Move it away from the cupboard on the left and possibly pull it forward a bit. It shouldn't be clamped to anything. Give it room to move without hitting anything.

It was just a couple of t-shirts, some socks and 'light' garments nothing really remotely heavy. How do I 'level it' if I put a spirit level on it I don't think it's quite level. Do I need a spanner to twist the feet?

If you put your hand on top of it and try to rock it in any direction, does it move (even slightly)? If so, you’ll need to adjust the height of the feet so that it is completely stable.

How nearly new is it? a quick websearch suggests this is a 2013 to 2017 model, so certainly not nearly new.

it sounds like the suspension system has probably failed.
A badly treated overloaded machine can very quickly destroy the suspension system, which will result in it shaking violently.

From experience, any more than 5 years out of these Beko machines is good going.

My washing machine vibrates depending on how unbalanced the load is during the spin cycle. It doesn't damage anything as its not pushed against a kitchen unit.
Again, How is it "too small"?

I'd say the level. It's easy to check and fix too. Nothing to do with the size or the gaps, needs a slight gap - they always shake. Small load can clump together and make it shake worse than a full drum.

Just looking at some youtube vids it seems that the concrete dampeners can work loose over time, leading to some pretty violent thumping. Might be worth seeing if they're tight. I'll try leveling the legs too as the machine definately sits at an angle. For £15 I'm not expecting miracles!
