Washing clothes on a cotton setting is too high. It will probably wash at 60, when 40 or even 30 would be better.
At 60 I’d expect some shrinkage.
I find M&S and Next jeans keep their colour far better than Gap. Always wash jeans inside out to avoid streaking. Also, bobbles tend to form on the outside, either because of being rubbed up as you wear or rubbing against other clothes in the machine. Anything prone to this I turn inside out.
Pull t-shirts into shape by lining up the seams correctly before you hang or put on the drying rack. If you use a tumble dryer, user the lower setting for clothes or they shrink - particularly socks!

I'm a great fan of all things Lands' End.  If you are female, but prefer your classic T-shirts to be longer/heavier than your typical ladies tees, then have a look at their men's tees.

Mr S and I have several each - washed at 40% then hung up to dry rather than tumbled, and they are all in near perfect condition.

Towels done on a cotton wash, 60 degrees. Jumpers washed on their specific program. Everything else gets lumped in together and washed at 30 degrees. Jeans turned inside out. Never had a problem.... so far!
