Online Probate Process

Hi everyone- I submitted a request for probate for my mum‘s estate about four weeks ago.

When I log online the status still says submitted. How long does it tend to be before this changes and does anyone know how many stages it goes through before it’s processed?

Thanks in advance

AFAIK, the status doesn't actually change until the point probate has been granted, so no real need to keep checking it. You're probably a couple of weeks away yet, if you're lucky.

It doesn't change even when it has been granted. This is mine from a couple of mins ago. Probate was completed in May 2022.

i wouldnt hold your breath! probate seems to be a complete lottery as to when it gets granted. im at 16 weeks so far for a simple case and thats with it being escalated. all i need it for is to sell the house.
  • Would echo what @kev1744 said, we are a simple case, at 12 weeks, escalated and marked as urgent and still crickets. Can see using the probate search that people are getting grants within 4 weeks in some cases.

I emailed to see what the complaints procedure is as well as contacted local MP too as this feels like a very poor service considering its additional stress on people at the worst point of their lives

We're at 8 weeks...managed to get through on the phone today ( after a 45min hold), and was told could be another 6 weeks..... we also have a property sale waiting to go through.

Mine still says Submitted, although it was granted 2 months ago! It took 9+ weeks, and I received an email telling me it was being processed, then later that day another email saying it had been granted. Got the certificates later that same week.

Thanks everyone seems to be a lottery.  There is no property sale pending but a significant sum of money earning zero interest.

I got an email to say mine was being processed and then a further email the next day to say a caveat had been placed on it so everything stopped and has remained stopped after nearly 2 years.

Good grief that’s dreadful.  Is there nothing you can do to expedite this?
