With the Ofgem announcement of the October price cap rates being announced Friday 26th August it may well be worth taking any fix deal you are undecided upon on Friday 12th August.

Important - Check you have a 14 day cooling off period first and then when the announcement is made on the 26th decide whether to stick or twist.

I will think that the energy companies will be doing exactly the same - pricing all tariffs now on the expected increase in October, knowing that some will not look at the variable rates in October and just seeing the headline news. If you have not fixed already then by August it may well be too late!
Personally, I'm waiting for the SVR in October as I'm still on a very good rate and it would cost me an estimated several hundred more pounds to switch now.

You might pay a higher DD for a few months but if you have low summer usage, only a small part of the DD will be used to pay the bills to Oct, the rest will sit as a credit in your energy account.
