Apart from the benefits to the station of being able to state it was a recent entry, I would assume that more of the people who pay to enter will be doing so near the closing time which should make it more likely that they will be around to answer the call - clearly they haven't got the hang of that.

Potentially each free entry has the same chance as a paid one - there are just likely to be many times more paid entries than free ones, especially for the more recent competitions. When the competitions were weekly, you could always make the same number of entries whatever entry method was used, there was no requirement to answer in 5 rings and there were more forum winners. Thursday- 4 rings lady answers with words said too quick, at work think she said Wards recycling place, aluminium, copper and bonus at end of month.Presenter says to lady you have just won £20,000. Lady replies you’re joking, oh my god,wow thank you can’t believe I’ve won. Lady says it helps so much, spend by sort out a car, pay off arrears and have a bit of spending money in my pocket, thank you this is unbelievable
