Cheapest way to get temporary car insurance? Can you get Third Party?
Hi all,
I recently changed cars to a more economical one and now need to sell my old one. I need temporary car insurance for about a week while I take it to different garages etc., but the cheapest I've been quoted is about £130 and I can't seem to find anywhere that does third party. Any hints or tips on how to bring the price down or who would offer third party?
Thank you!

Temporary additional vehicle to your existing policy.2

Similar situation to you, I was charged ~£28/month by my current insurer.0

a month's free cover on the old vehicle to allow you time to sell used to be standard and probably still is with most policies.NOTE: This is only applied if you tell your insurer and they confirm they are covering the old vehicle.0

As mentioned, speak to your insurer. Most will give you a short period (30 days) of cover on your old car to allow you to sell it.0

Thanks everyone. My insurer wouldn’t give me a grace period to sell the old car, but did allow me to add an extra car onto the policy. Paid for the year up front but will cancel as soon as it’s sold and if I can sell it within two weeks and cancel the changes, then I pay £35 cancellation fee. So if, fingers crossed, the car sells in a couple of weeks, I’ve managed to make a big saving.0

Just to update, it all worked perfectly. Managed to sell the car in less than two weeks, which meant reduced cancellation fee and only paid just over £13 in total for the days when I had an extra car on my policy. Massive saving on what I would have paid by taking out temporary car insurance so definitely the way to go in future.2
