UKPC Parking Charge

A NtK has been received by a vehicle keeper for parking charge issued for overstaying paid for time. The driver did pay for the parking time and still has the parking ticket which proves this. However, the driver incorrectly entered the registration number on the machine by 1 letter. Should this be mentioned and a copy of the parking ticket attached with the online appeal or just stick to the template? The keeper was thinking of adding a paragraph saying:

The driver of the vehicle paid for parking that covers the period stated in the parking charge but accidentally entered 1 incorrect letter. Photographic evidence of this is attached that shows this. As such, no loss or damage has been incurred by your company and so this charge should be cancelled.

Appreciate any advice, the sticky thread has been read.

Use the blue text initial appeal from the NEWBIES FAQ Announcement, first post, adding a sentence to the effect that there was a single digit incorrectly input - a 'minor keying error' (use those words) and accordingly you expect a full cancellation as per the BPA Code of Practice para 17.4.

Please read the paragraph so you can feel confident in making your statement. Google will find the CoP for you.

Look up the BPA CoP about entering an incorrect VRM. The current versions says a PCN should be cancelled where a minor keying error has occurred, or a £20 reduced fee can be charged for a major keying error.

One digit out would be a minor error, so add a single paragraph to that effect to the template in blue text from the NEWBIES Announcement, and quote the relevant part of the CoP (Paragraph number and actual wording).

How long was the alleged overstay, because the incorrect VRM may not be enough to get this cancelled?

Thanks very much, that's really helpful and the CoP states that 1 letter incorrect is a minor keying error and states " If a typing error such as
this leads to a PCN being issued and the motorist appeals,
the PCN must be cancelled at the first stage of appeal"

The alleged overstay was from 19:48 - 22:09 but the parking ticket covers up until 22:48, 3 hours were paid for.

Thank you both for your advice.

So they are trying it on. Pathetic!

Indeed, glad the driver always keeps their parking tickets for at least a month before chucking them in the recycle bin.

Appeal lodged and I'll update on the result.
