Hi everyone not sure if this is the right board to post if anyone thinks theres a better one please point me in the right direction 🙂
Basically my dad had a scan in hospital back in February and I just have a nagging feeling about the result we were given. I'd like to either get it relooked at or a copy of it to take to someone independent but have no idea where to start. TIA...

Start by speaking to his GP giving your concerns and see what they have to say. If you or they are not happy then they could request another referral to another specialist. If that wasn't available, you could ask for a private referral which would obviously be at your expense.1

Hi thanks for your reply. To add more detail unfortunately my dad has passed away 😢 his recent scan about 4 weeks ago was not good news, so I just have a feeling about the one in February which apparently was all clear .400ixl said:Start by speaking to his GP giving your concerns and see what they have to say. You can request a copy of his notes, including scans etc from the hospital. My contact was the Communications Manager at ours & she sent me a link to the request form.
If you are stuck, contact the Patient Liaison (PALS), located in most hospitals & they'll give you the correct route to ask for what you want, & probably who to contact to help you understand what you're looking at once you have it all.
There was no charge for me, but could be different for you.
PS On reflection, perhaps make contact with the hospital PALS to discuss your concerns regarding just the Febuary scan, if you get ALL the notes/scans it will be mind boggling!

My condolences.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.2 -
Hi thankyou so much for that, just having a look at pals and I think you're right that seems to be what I'm looking for. I'm very local to the hospital so will probably wander up there monday and make some enquiries 🙂SevenOfNine said:You can request a copy of his notes, including scans etc from the hospital. You might be better off emailing or phoning to start with. PALS at my hospital weren’t client facing, had a bit of a backlog and you couldn’t just wander in to talk to them. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Certain medical conditions can flare up very quickly. So there may be nothing untoward in the first scan being OKIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

First of all, I am really sorry for your sudden loss.
If you just want an apology, assuming a mistake has happened, then probably PALS is the best route.
If you are thinking of suing the NHS, that's a well-worn path, and the obvious course is to see a solicitor.
Having said that, there are a few things to consider.
The first one is whether it would have made much difference if a diagnosis had been made in February? Would the diagnosis, if made then, have led to treatment that significantly improved the quality or length of your father's life?
The second is whether you would get much in the way of damages, and that depends on his earning power, etc., as well as the answer the question immediate above.
.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?2 -
Hi oh yes I know this but also have 1st hand experience over the last few years of them getting things wrong so I wouldn't feel right unless I asked.lincroft1710 said:Certain medical conditions can flare up very quickly. So there may be nothing untoward in the first scan being OK0 -
I haven't really thought what I want in my head I just need to know was it ok in February we've had 2 family members in the last 6 months who've had scans / xrays at the same hospital and were ok then within 2 weeks they rung back my mum had a fractured back and my son had a broken bone on his foot 😒 so mistakes do obviously happenGDB2222 said:oxfordgirl_2 said:

Sometimes people just want a second opinion/ explanations/occasionally an acknowledgment and an apology. Not something the NHS is particularly good at so then they look at the legislative route because there’s no other option. Suing isn’t necessarily about the money, but about a means to an end.GDB2222 said:oxfordgirl_2 said:

OP, have your mum and son looked at the formal complaints route, if they want to flag up concerns?
I appreciate that you want to check and why you want that, but don’t underestimate how stressful getting answers can be especially if you’re grieving. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
