Getting money back
Hi
We recently tried moving to Northumbria Energy - which as it turns out was a bad idea as they have just gone bust. They immediately took some money off us during the transfer process but never completed the transfer.
Anyone have any ideas on how to go about getting our money back? I have been in touch with the company and as well as being incapable of transferring us they now seem incapable of paying the money back.
Thanks
Matthew

Do you have proof of the payment you made to them, an account number? Proof of a credit?
If so contact Octopus as the Seller of Last Resort as any account credits will have to be returned through them.

You are saying you were in the process of transferring to them. Did you get a customer account with them?
When they went bust, what happened? Did you stick with your old supplier or where you transferred to Octopus?

I just had a read through Trust Pilot. It seems that they set up direct debits and took money, but never initiated the switch.
There were other people saying that Octopus does not have their details, which sounds right if they were never switched to Northumbria.
I am not sure if the money that has been taken is protected as it seems from your email that you were not a customer, but that they just scammed you and took money from your account without a business relationship. Not sure if you just can use the direct debit guarantee here?
I know that Octopus has honoured the credits in a situation where Ofgem said they don't need to pay, so not unlikely that they might do so again.0 -
