    Why choose the 50's ?

Humans have been on this planet for 1 million years (stoneage) or even just 2000 years if you want to only consider AD.

How many years of that has gas fired central heating been available? Or even the ability to flick a switch and have light (or ask Alexa to do it if even that is a bit too much for you)?

How on earth did humanity make it to where we are now without such things!!

    😉

We are the authors of our own human population explosion....and will probably be our own downfall too ... In time.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

    We are basically locusts
  • Prior to 1st April I topped up my non smart prepayment meters. I have £250 stored on my electricity key. I will not be able to insert this in to my meter until my current balance runs down significantly which won't be until next year. In order to build up my balances significantly I used all my cash savings. I am not a rich person. I took Martin's advice to try and lock in the pre-April rates for as long as possible. I will not be able to top up with the vouchers based on their expiry dates. I realise some people may think I should be grateful I topped up as I did but this was a struggle, I live on my own and have asthma, my annual income is less than £22k. Cost of travel and food is impacting me, as it is everyone, I don't want to forego this £400. There is no guarantee, as I understand, my supplier (British Gas) won't claw back the difference between the rates I obtained prior to 1st April vs the various price caps.

    Please could someone offer advice?
  • I'm in the same situation as RachelMarie123: on a non-smart prepay meter, front-loaded with credit prior to the April price rise, and therefore still using electric at the cheaper price (and hoping my supplier doesn't claw back the difference). Total expected saving after using up all the pre-april credit will be almost £200.

I'm planning on front-loading credit onto my meter before the Oct price rise, but as soon as I redeem one of these £66/67 codes it'll update/increase the tariff. I'm hoping it will be possible to get the codes re-issued after they expire, otherwise it'll massively decrease my potential savings.

Could you load your key with at least  £250 of the £400? British Gas told me credit held on key doesn't expire.I have no space on my key. As loaded that too. Will write to my MP. Don't really want to load on to my gas card even if allowed as have £950 balance on there already.

if one is a dual fuel customer and the payment exceeds what one owes for electricity would it be applied to the outstanding gas balance?

As it stands I've got £50 on the meter itself plus £250 on the key, all at pre-April tariff. By Oct I won't have used this all up, so all I can front-load is £250 onto the key at current tariff to beat the Oct price rise. I really invested in this loophole!

I'll wait until there's more info on these codes and then I'll have to figure out what the best option will be for me. Ideally we can get the codes reissued.

The October voucher should be valid for 3 months so if you get through your £50 on your meter before voucher expiry you can load your card balance on to your meter and top up your key to £250 with the various vouchers. Appreciate would have been preferable to load all £250 at pre-Oct rises. My thinking is, as a low user, as I have enough credit on gas & electricity meters combined to last me until Feb 2025 if rates come down then a small top up will re-set all credit held on key so happy to hold £250 on electricity key and £150 on gas card in worse case scenario. Do you have a gas meter card, could you hold some on there?

The only advice anyone can give right now would be to wait and see exactly how these vouchers are provided and what expiry date is on them...

I know it is frustrating not having clear information, but until the vouchers are out there we really can't make suggestions...
