Hi,

I'm a heavy energy user due to my disability and needing to keep the house temperature between 20.5c - 21.5c apart from the summer and needing to keep alot of electrical items on most of the time. My bungalow is quite large aswell.

I was moved to Eon Next when Igloo went bust.

I am currently on Next Flex @ £423p/m

Electricity
Gas
Daily standing charge48.91p27.22p
Unit rate27.09p per kWh7.23p per kWh
Assumed annual usage7,055kWh40,073kWh
Estimated annual cost£2,089.81£2,994.64
I'm being offered Next Online v17 @ £742 p/m = £8.9k a year!!

Is this the best deal I can get or is there another company I can change too with better rates.

Also we're considering solar panel since we have a large roof and no shading. The house faces SSW. What size system should I be looking for 8kwp or 10kwp?

Thanks in advance

Only you know whether you need to be such a high energy consumer, but with a current annual bill of around £5,000, and the expectation that Next Flex will increase by >60% in October, i.e by > £3,000 pa in your case, and again in January it is not out of the question that Next Online v17 could cost you £8,900.
These increases are causing many people to examine very closely how they use energy. No-one is exempt from the challenges.

There's nowhere to switch to that will be cheaper than those two options. Come October, NextFlex should (but might not) still be slighty cheaper than Next Online V17 and in January NextFlex is expected to rise again.
You can take your chances on NextFlex, or grit your teeth and take Next Online V17.

As big as you can fit/afford, with the proviso that systems over 4kWp are would ideally get DNO permission - otherwise you'll be limited to 3.68kW of export. See this thread for an example of a nice big array that's limited to 3.68kW export.

If the OP uses a lot of energy due to their disabilities then they should be having a Needs Assessment done with their local council to see if they can offer financial assistance.

If they are looking to put 10kWp of solar on the roof of a large bungalow it doesn't appear that they are too short of cash. With the prices solar companies are charging at the moment that's probably around £15K and if they want battery storage another £10K.

I don't have financial difficulties I was just seeing what the best deal was. Especially with how much extra profits the energy companies are making.

    Thanks though

It’s now been updated to v18 on Martin Lewis page, are the rates the same? Sorry for all the questions and appreciate replies. I have taken a fixed with octopus and I am in cooling off period. I wish Martin Lewis would publish the rates for comparison
