Switching energy companies when moving into a rented property
Hello,
I've moved into a new flat this week and have discovered that my energy provider is foxglove energy, who seem to have been taken over by outfox the market. They seem a bit suspicous and I would like to swap energy providers anyway to get the best deal.
Will I need to register with outfox the market first and then try and switch or can I register with another provider without going through outfox the market? Or can someone suggest the best way around this please? Outfox seem to have bad reviews and on their webpage suggest not registering with them at the moment!?
Landlord seems to know nothing or be interested in the energy provider so I don't believe switching will be a problem.
Thanks for your help!

Yes, you must register with them first but do insist on remaining on their standard variable tariff, do not under any circumstances agree to one of their excruciatingly over priced fixed tariffs...h_hollz said:Will I need to register with outfox the market first and then try and switch...

Yes, you need to ring and give them your details and the meter readings. Might be an idea to take pics of the meters showing the readings too (in case last tenant didn't do final readings or fibbed about them).
Your hunch about them being a bit dodgy is good instinct but there's not many other suppliers taking on new customers at the moment. You might get on SVT with Octopus or EDF if you give them a ringBarnsley, South Yorkshire

Foxglove Energy *are* Outfox the Market. And they're on Ofgem's naughty list, plus their current fixed rates are terrible.Ring them,. register, then look for a switch (as Alnat1 says, EDF and Octopus might both take you on the SVT if you ask.)N. In case you've not already realised there is unlikely to be any better deal than the standard variable tariff you are on. There might be fixed options but they will currently be much more expensive than you are paying - might be cheaper than the price cap after Oct though. They seem a bit suspicous and I would like to swap energy providers anyway to get the best deal.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
You must register with OFTM first then find a supplier that is willing to take you on, preferably on the SVR. Definitely take photo's of each meter showing the readings just before you contact them to tell them you are the new occupier. Then give either EDF or Octopus a ring to see if you can switch to them on the SVR.h_hollz said:Hello,
