Does unsettled claims affect new policy

I had car accident last year and still not settled although I got my car fixed by my insurance company. The problem is the unsettled claims starts affecting me getting new quotes, which means I can't get car insurance, anyone had the same experience, tell me what to do? The old insurance company is not giving quotes to old and new customers due to technical issues by the way.

An open claim is typically deemed a fault claim and so it may be adverse getting quotes when you have open claims but for Car insurance its not an issue getting insurance elsewhere beyond the increased premiums... naturally if they are fault claims then it makes no difference if they are open or closed. Whilst aggregators ask for the claim amount its for the 1% of insurers and the vast majority dont differentiate between a £1k and £1m claim as its broadly down to luck/bad luck

Thanks very much. But why I could not go through at least two insurance companies. They said some info I input against their database. I put all the true information already.

You can only ask them but most commonly its because people think a claim is non-fault and so report it as such and report their normal NCD whereas an open claim is normally a fault claim and so impacts NCD until its closed.

Outside of that insurance companies can check more and more details of what an insured states is their details and most insurers aren't interested in pointing out that you've had your license for 3 years not the 4 years you've claim and instead will just decline instead. A minority of intermediaries cannot check and so perform manual checks afterwards and their fees for inaccurate info they find is considerable.

Thanks for that. Yes I reported it and of course my NCD is 0. It looks like the industry is not that friendly any more. What is the solution then?

Use an aggregator like confused.com or this site's parent moneysupermarket... unless you have other significant issues you will get quotes.

My deal brother, I did try nearly all famous platform money supermarket, gocompare, confused etc. I can get quotes although the cheapest one is always the same company but when it is down to make payment I just couldn't get through. Technical errors that it said and actually not the real reason. I feel I am on the blacklist now.

Its generally best to go for the best value, which is rarely the cheapest, and so move on through the list... its often a lucky escape to miss some of the cheap bottom feeders
