Halfords bike repair

Hi

I bought a bike from Halfords online last year and it now requires a repair under warranty.

Halfords are refusing to collect the bike and have said I need to take it into store. I bought the bike online and had it delivered, i dont live near a halfords store and have no transport to get to one.

Can they do this? If id bought it from another retailer who didnt have stores i wouldn't have this problem.

Thanks

Read the warranty paperwork.  The terms of the warranty will explain what their obligations are in this scenario.  If returning the bike to a store is condition of a warranty repair, then yes, they can do that.

Exactly what needs repairing? Bikes need to be regularly serviced with some parts requiring replacing at regular intervals (chains, brake pads ect) other parts need regular adjustment (rear derailleur) none of these things will be covered by warrantee.

Its an electric bike and the crank sensor is faulty, ive emailed the manufacturer and they've confirmed its a warranty repair.

Does it need to go back to Halfords for the repair or would the manufacturer let you take it somewhere else?

No they said it has to go back to halfords... on halfords site it says:

'If you find yourself needing to make a claim on your guarantee, then please take your bike into any Halfords store with proof of purchase. If the bike was purchased online or you are unable to make the journey to store, get in touch with our customer support team.'

Have you contacted the customer support team as they are advising you do, if so what was the outcome?

    Halfords T&Cs also say:
    For...adult bikes...we offer a courier collection service.
A £7 charge applies for this service.
To request this service, please contact Customer Services.

    Please note the following:

Collections require a minimum of two working days' notice.
Someone will need to be available to sign at the time of collection.
Collections can only be made Monday - Friday (excluding Bank Holidays).
Collection will take place between 9am and 6pm (we're afraid exact times can't be given).
Please re-pack the item(s) securely for courier transport. All cycles must be un-built and boxed for return.

The most onerous part will be the last one, the un-building (is that a word?) and repacking the bits back in the box.

Since it is a repair, under the Consumer Rights Act you should get the modest courier charge refunded.

Perfectly clear, you bought a bike with an RTB warranty, so you must return it at your expense to their designated service agent. How you purchased it (online) is not relevant under a retail warranty claim, because they, not statute, dictate the t and c's.
£7 for a courier is extremely reasonable.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
