Confused regarding electricity prices!

My energy provider is outfox the market, on its invoices it PROUDLY states : 100% RENEWABLE ELECTRICITY.....Am I missing something???? ... WHY then is it going up to completely ridicules levels??? Has the SUN sent a final DEMAND notice??? Has the WIND gone on STRIKE??? Has the TIDE decided not to come in maybe????  I really am completely confused about this. We have WYCHE FARM oil refinery that has been producing oil since 1986/7 yet nothing is said about this even though its the largest oil field in Europe. We have North sea gas. We only get less than 3% of our fuel from Russia, so why not just increase our fuel production from Wyche farm and or North sea? or even dare I say it.... build some gas storage? I am disabled I got a whole 3% pay rise ..... this equates to £3 per week, my increase in council tax this year wiped this out alone, let alone the inflation of food bills, fuel bills, etc etc. I am not entitled to Universal credit as my husband dares to work (NHS) full time, and he is my full time carer, so I don't qualify for most of the government assistance. What can I do?

  • It is confusing.
    Confusing, overwhelming, frightening, and infuriating.
I wish you all the best and hope you can find a way to get through the winter without sacrificing too much.

Any energy produced is produced by private companies and sold at market prices.
Governments do not produce or own energy and know nothing about how to do so or want to take the financial risks to do so.

Outfox The Market are in trouble with Ofgem and might not be around for much longer.
They also have spme truly terrible fixed rate offers, so try to resist them.
If you want a competitive fixed rate deal, you'll have to switch to another supplier. There's a bit of a buzz on the forum about Green Energy UK, who have a tariff called Sparkling that seems a decent deal.
But whatever you do, prices are going up a lot. It's a fact of life, I'm afraid.
