in Credit cards
I popped into a halifax branch last week and whilst there I was asked if I was interested in taking out a 0% credit card which I am. They said there were 2 cards available to me, either 1) 0% on transfers for 15 months and 0% on purchases for 3 months or 2) 0% on transfers and transfers for 6 months.
I asked them about a halifax card I'd heard offering 0% on both for 12 months but the woman said this isn't available and the 'flagship' card was the one to go for with 0% for 15 months, but I need a card with 0% on purchases too.
I told her I would have a think about it as I wanted to see what else was available on the market. Lo and behold, I was doing a search on the internet and found the halifax 'one' card which offers 0% on transfers and purchases for 12 months. It appears that she was being dishonest with me for whatever reason and I feel quite annoyed by this. I've been a halifax customer for many years and I'm not happy with this.
Why would she not tell me about the halifax 'one' card? I know it's only available on the internet but I should still have been informed surely.

Why should you have been informed about a product she wasn't offering you?0

It wouldn't surprise me if she didn't know anything about it. Most banks branch c/s staff are probably the least trained and least knowledgeable about their own products nowadays as the emphasis has been taken away from training on these matters and replaced by sales targets which every c/s agent will have. It could also be possible that the comission on the offered cards were greater than the one you wanted.
I open dozens of accounts annually with many different banks/societies and have found it's best to take what your advised very lightly and instead research for yourself.0 -
I'd agree with the above and say the agent was most likely unaware of the internet-only offer - I used to work for a company that would randomly spring offers out on an internet-only basis and the first I'd hear of them would be from customers moaning that I can't set it up for them.0

I would also agree with last 2 posters.
Banks do NOT offer the same deals to customers who visit branches as they do on the internet.0 -
Different marketing streams = different offers. You were not being lied to, merely the offers you were expecting because you had seen them advertised on the net were not available in branch, and it is quite likely the branch staff were unaware of the offer.
Earlier this year Halifax were offering 12 months 0% if you applied through moneysupermarket but only 9 months if you applied direct to their website.
Equally barclaycard went through a period of 10 months no fee 0% in branch whilst the offer was 12 months with a 3% fee on the web.0 -
The other thing is that these days staff in branches are under real pressure to amass points or whatever, have monthly targets to meet etc. Perhaps this wouldn't count towards the points for their branch (since it would count as an internet sale) so in her shoes I probably wouldn't have told you about a card that didn't count at all for the branch - in fact she would probably get into trouble for it.
It isn't much fun working in a bank these days0 -

I think sometimes you can only get certainb deals online. Found the best deals online when I had a look. The branches don't know about the online deals - totally different side of the business.0
