I think either way it would have been unlikely that you would have been successful in a claim if you had been a no show .Shropshiretom said:If I had been a no show then I would have lost the value of my ticket but because I called AC in advance of the flight and told them of my situation, they offered me 2 further alternatives. I could have the value of the flight in Aeroplan points or I could have a credit voucher, also for the value of the flights, or I could choose to be a no show and receive nothing. Avanti has explained that had I chosen to be a no show and forfeit the cost of the tickets, - they might have considered my claim for compensation, ie a refund! But they felt AC had already compensated me with the credit voucher. And yes I can use the AC voucher to fly to many places in the world but I shall have to route through Canada to get those places.
The T&Cs of Avanti policy say
Sections1&2
“ 4. You must notify the carrier or travel agent immediately that you know the trip is to be cancelled, or cut short, to minimise your loss as far as possible. If you fail to notify the carrier or travel agent immediately, our liability shall be restricted to the cancellation charges that would have applied had such a failure not occurred. ”
So if you hadn’t contacted the airline - Avanti would have reason to say that you had invalidate your claim .0 -
My COVID COVER on my annual Avanti Travel Policy states that I would qualify for reimbursement due to "a) You, ... or any person with whom you have arranged to stay during the trip has a diagnosis of COVID-19 in the 14 days prior to your booked departure date".onashoestring said:

I wasn't able to contact Avanti because they were closed over the weekend and when they were open on the Monday they didn't answer the phone. I would happily give up the AC credit voucher if Avanti would reimburse me for the cost of the airline tickets.
It seems to me that Air Canada gets to keep my money and Avanti Travel Insurance doesn't have to pay out - while I'm left with a hefty credit voucher for an airline I wouldn't normally consider using.0
