Roof cleaning and coating

Hello

My Mum never normally signs up for something without thinking about it or getting further quotes, but today she's signed up to have her roof cleaned of moss, a fungicidal wash applied and then a coating to prevent the moss growing back.

The house is a 3 bedroom bungalow and they've said it'll be £7.5k.  This seems expensive to me and I'll be doing some research online, but wondered if anyone could give me an idea of if this is reasonable or not?  Apparently it comes with an insurance-backed guarantee...but even so, it seems steep to me.

Thanks

Gwen

£7.5K for a day or two of work - She has been had.
I would be reporting the company to Trading Standards (preying on vulnerable OAPs) and getting any money already paid out returned. Moss growing on a roof is perfectly natural and doesn't cause any damage - Yes, it will clog up the gutters if they are not cleaned out regularly, but this is trivial routine maintenance on a bungalow. The local window cleaner would probably charge £25 to clear the gutters. £7.5K will pay for a lifetime of visits.
Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

Just had a 4 bedroom bungalow  and garage roof done the same - it had heavy moss on it and the gutters disconnected and cleaned also sprayed with environmental moss killer - took all day 2 men £650  job was well done with pressure washer.
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j

Fantastic waste of water and money during a drought, well done. Hopefully they didn't damage your roof too much.

Oh dear, pressure washers should never be used on a roof, let alone having a couple of cowboys clambering all over it.

As for the OP this is a total ripoff please tell the ‘company’ the job is off.

Its NOT reasonable or necessary. Don't argue over the price, simply state you haven't got the money to pay for it.

Thank you for the responses here.  As we were still within the 14 day cooling off period, we managed to cancel and get the money back.  Thanks for the advice.
