Bus Lane

Just curious but a local Jet garage, which is halfway along a bus lane , is by far the cheapest at present. Driving by the other day I saw that cars were queueing to get in.Not unusual I know but are they allowed to queue in the bus lane(free) or should they stop in the road and hold up traffic??

Nope, that is a no no. You must block the main road, not interfere with the once an hour bus !The best explainer I can find

They aren't allowed in the bus lane whilst it's in effect, so the correct thing to do is block the main carriageway. Any busses in the lane would then get priority over the queue that isn't in front of the bus lane yet.

Thanks, thats what we guessed would be the rule. Its a daft bus lane, only about 200 yards.

The correct thing to do is to drive on. Blocking the highway is an offence (causing an unnecessary obstruction). Getting cheaper petrol is not a necessity.Herzlos said:They aren't allowed in the bus lane whilst it's in effect, so the correct thing to do is block the main carriageway. Which is exactly what we did. I did wonder if anyone queueing in the bus lane would get done, its been confirmed that they could probably. If it was just one car at the break in the bus lane they could probably get away with it but not 6 or 7 cars and vans.
