Incorrect Gas Bill

Hi Forumites,

I'm looking for some advice.

In July 2020 I got smart meters installed in my 1 bed flat. 2 months later I switched providers, but it seems the energy firm I was with (Eon) didn't provide the correct details of the actual meter to the new firm. Occasionally I provided to the new firm meter readings, but didn't check that they were different on the bills (for which I take responsibility for). In Sept 2021 I switched back to Eon Next (and fixed) and did not receive a gas bill until I called them and asked. After 2 months of waiting for one I finally got one (they said I should also complain to Ofgem), but they've taken the readings of the gas meter from when it was first installed and I've been lumped with a massively incorrect gas bill.

I live on my own and only put the heating on when it gets super cold and I turn the hot water off unless I need it to shower and do my washing up as these are the only things in my flat which has gas.

Any advice on how to push for a more accurate bill or what to do?

It is your responsibility to give a meter reading to the new supplier when you switch, not that of the former supplier. It looks like you never did this and you have now a big mess on your hands.

What is the meter read for the final bill from EON when you changed first? Is this the same as the starting read of the other supplier.

Same question for the switch back to EON.

    What is your read today?

What have you been billed that you believe is to much, units and KWh?

I did provide meter readings when I switched both ways both in 2020 and in 2021. These readings that I provided aren't showing on the bills from the last firm. It's only showing the estimates of the old meter.

I cant seem to access my old account from Eon, and I didn't download the bills.

Did you provide the readings to the new supplier?

How do you know that there are errors when you do not have the bills and information what they are based on?

What are the readings you submitted and what is todays reading?

In between July 2020 and now have you paid any bills /DD    and are these credits shown on your "incorrect" gas bill ?   The meter would have read 0000. 0 in July 2020 - what is it today ?

How much do you owe ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
