Trying to enable spell check in Thundebird, have tried what appears to be the way:- "Click Tools -> Options, then go to the "Composition" menu at top of the Options window, then click on the "Spelling" tab. Under the "Spelling tab" you should see: "Enable spell check as you type" and it should have a check mark beside it"

But the only button to press is Composition & Addressing and there is no "Spelling" tab.

Under Composition > Spelling  I have ticked the boxes "Check spelling before sending" and "Enable spellcheck as you type" both seperately and together, but spell check does not work.

Same problem with MSE.

    Have you downloaded a dictionary?

Looking at my Thunderbird settings, although spellchecking seems to be enabled, I see I don't have a dictionary installed. Instead, there is a link to follow which opens a dictionary download page.

Yes I found that but not sure what, if anything, to do with it as it says,
"Installing a dictionary add-on will add a new language option to your Thunderbird spell-checker, which checks your spelling when you fill out Web forms. Language pack add-ons change the language of the entire application."

On my TB, I went to the 'hamburger' (top right) and clicked on 'addons and themes', then dictionaries (on the left) and in there I have 'British English Dictionary (Marco Pinto), which works well.
    Try it?

My TB has a differnet route to that add-on, which I found earlier, but was apprehensive about downloading, but I have done so and it seems to work..Thanks.

Now how do I get MSE to  spell check in posts?

If you use Firefox, like I do, it's a very similar way to TB
Hamburger, addons and themes and get Marco Pinto to do his stuff there!
