Energy bill how to dispute officially (eon next)
I saw a fb post on the MSE fb a few months ago about energy bills vs account statements, it said that the energy bill is often less than the account statement. and you should ask for the bill. I was getting suspiciously high bills from eon next, including for a whole month when I wasn't in the country (I live on my own and this was in the winter, they were charging me almost £200 per month.
I asked them to send me the bill. They sent me lots of non-sensical replies, and insisted the account statement was the bill, but when I insisted more, they sent me a separate bill, which was almost half of my account statement. I asked them to send me the bills for all previous months since I've been with them. I just got loads of nonsensical replies again, insisting the account statement was the bill, even though they had already sent me a much lower bill.
All other correspondence just lacks consistency, I get email replies from random customer service reps, never the same person, and it's like starting a new conversation with a robot every time, and they're like a broken record repeating the statement is the bill, despite the evidence to the contrary! It feels like they want to wear me down with talking nonsense, which they have succeeded in because I just got exhausted and retreated.
I'm not sure what to do about it, I haven't paid them in months, I want to switch energy suppliers (I live in harrow) but also want to settle their bill, just want to make sure it's the right one! Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi,slow down, breathe in, hold........breathe out.Have you actual start reading and actual now reading, or one that corresponds with bill? Then we need to know what unit rate and what daily standing charge is, then we can help.0

If you want to dispute anything you raise a complaint, you need to be certain you have something to dispute first. Eon next are pretty good, submit a read you get an accurate bill, don't submit a read you get an estimate, maybe that is what they have done.

Hi everyone,
thanks for the replies, I was dealing with a lot of other things, and left this at the time. However, eon are behaving even worse than before. They are charging me more than £500 p/m, and I'm one person living on my own. I'm only turning on the hot water twice a week, and heat my bedroom for around an hour at night. They insist their bills are accurate, frugalmacdugal said:Hi,slow down, breathe in, hold........breathe out.Have you actual start reading and actual now reading, or one that corresponds with bill? Then we need to know what unit rate and what daily standing charge is, then we can help.
but I don't think energy bills are meant to be this high, even in the current climate!

I moved into the property in July 2021:
This is what they are charging me currently:
Unit Rate (Day) 61.763p per kW/h
Unit Rate (Night) 33.669p per kW/h
Standing Charge 41.347p/day (£150.92/year)
This was their rate from April to October 2022:
Unit Rate (Day) 33.879p per kW/h
Unit Rate (Night) 18.469p per kW/h
Standing Charge 41.347p/day (£150.92/year)
From October 2021 to April 2022, this was the rate:
Unit Rate (Day) 23.928p per kW/h
Unit Rate (Night) 13.045p per kW/h
Standing Charge 27.304p/day (£99.66/year)
From July - October 2021 this was their rate:
Unit Rate (Day) 21.55p per kW/h
Unit Rate (Night) 11.75p per kW/h
Standing Charge 27.26p/day (£99.49/year)
These are the meter readings I sent them:
25/11/21:Day 20625Night 36386
(I was out of the country for around a month)
26/1/22:Day 21237Night 36510
30/9/22:Day 36860Night 23046
When I sent them the meter reading on September 30, they sent me a bill with the post-October rates, which are almost double.
When I disputed this, they insisted they were using the tariff for September,
and then sent me a really confusing email, stating rates that are not reflective of any of the rates on my bills pre-or post - October, This was one of the emails they sent me:Hi,
Just to clarify you have not been billed to anything post October 1st on your account yet.
Your rate before October 1st were:
Unit rates
Night: 19.39 p/kWh
Day: 35.57 p/kWh

The rates form October 1st onwards are:
Unit rates
Night: 17.50 p/kWh
Day: 47.00
