I was tested positive for Covid - can my cat get affected by it?

My wife asked me to isolate myself in one room in the house, and she told me to not even touch the cat because next week she wants to bring the kids to her mom (mum) and she is worried about me having Covid.
I wanted to have the cat with me, but I can't, can't even hug her or the kids, it feels sucks, but I totally understand and respect that - my question is - can cats really get sick from human beings or is it safe to have your cat with you and then have the kids pet it as well etc.?

AS covid can survive on surfaces then if you spread the virus to the cat by e.g sneezing or coughing and releasing viruc into the air , particles could land on the cat's fur. If the children or your wife then stroked the cat they might get infected.

What You Need to Know- The risk of animals spreading SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, to people is low.
- The virus can spread from people to animals during close contact.
- More studies and surveillance are needed to understand how SARS-CoV-2 is spread between people and animals.
- People with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 should avoid contact with animals, including pets, livestock, and wildlife.

When we had covid ( we were quite unwell), our cats were remarkably sensitive to this. Our (now) elder 2 loved to go out in the hallway of the apartment block we lived in every day and would whine if they couldn't.They didn't even try to go out when we retrieved the care packages our friends in the building dropped off for us whilst we were in isolation.May you find your sister soon Helli.

It has been shown that cats can catch covid,so there is a risk that your cat ould catch covid from you.
It's less likely that it would pass it on to other people but there isn't enough evidence to be sure of the level of risk, and it probably also depends on how cuddly the cat is and how liky it is that it might snieeze in the face of any other person.
