I have a weird barcode print and scan issue that I am trying to fathom out.

I have a handheld usb barcode scanner and I have printed out some sample Code 39 barcodes - im trying to keep things simple at the moment by just printing and scanning.

If I print a document on a Canon multifunction copier then it scans perfectly fine every time, if I print the exact same document on either of the two HP laser printers M712 and M426 then it does not scan.
Ive downloaded a barcode app on my mobile and its the same : Canon -output scans fine, the HP laser output refuse to scan.

I realise that its 'something' to do with the output from the HP lasers but does anyone have any similar experience and can point me in the direction of a potential fix or workaround?  Ive tried printing in all of the quality/dpi outputs available on the HP print driver and its the same.

Many Thanks

I just wanted to point out that "Code 39" is not a 2d barcode, it's a 1d barcode, so perhaps editing your title might bring more responses. 2d barcodes are things like QR codes.

Sounds to me like a device or driver issue. See https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05051702#AbT9

The OP doesn't mention using SAP.

Have you examined the two barcodes to see if you can see any difference?  The difference should be very marked for the barcode reader to not be able to read it. If there is no discernable difference, it's more likely to be the scanner or app you are using to read the barcode.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Thanks for the input so far.

At the moment im trying to keep it simple and im just scanning the barcode text/numbers into notepad.
Ive tried a cheapo scanner, an expensive Symbol branded scanner and an app on my android phone - same results for all which is weird.

Im going round in circles but its taking time away from the job in hand so ill just print to the printer that does work for now and just live with the fact that an HPprinter is being weird.

    All the best
