Used appliances, FB, Gumtree etc

Has anyone had any experience buying white goods like washer driers, fridges etc off FB? Just wondering what to look out for, seems like there's some bargains to be had but I must admit I'd hate to pay £50 to cart off people's junk.

There will be some genuine sellers on their, but you need to be careful. It will be difficult to get your money back if there's anything wrong with what you have bought. They aren't supposed to provide false info in the listing, but if you've bought a £50 fridge, are you really going to bother with a claim if it turns out it won't cool below 10oC? Bit different to buying a car for a few £k where the loss is worth fighting for.
Your best bet is to buy from people you know, or buy products you understand and can get fixed. Second hand TV's are a good example - usually difficult/uneconomical to get fixed, but might have a fault that you aren't bothered about e.g. cannot connect to wi-fi might not be an issue to you. And with TV's you can ask to see it working. A genuine seller would be happy to do so. You could look at second hand shops where you at least have some come back.

I can only comment from a sellers perspective. As the person is coming to collect the item, they therefore know where you live so I would never sell something which didn't work and I would expect the majority are honest sellers

I've had an old fridge from eBay and a freezer free from Freecycle, they've both been fine.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
