I've just changed from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S22. I've got most things working but can't seem to get Google Wallet to work. One of my credit cards is my old one I lost. I've tried to put my new one on but it says my phone can't be set up for contact less. Just been to the supermarket and tried paying using my debit card which is also stored in the wallet but the reader and the phone didn't talk to each other. I have set it up as the default payment method. Any ideas or should I just use Samsung pay?

I assume you have NFC turned on?Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.1

Have you checked that the card issuer supports Google Wallet? It's a different subset of issuers from Apple Pay (and Samsung Pay and, er, Barclaycard who don't play with anyone).2

It's only changed to 'Wallet' this past week or so, it was just Google Pay prior to that. Uninstall the app and re-install as there might have been a problem when your phone updated GP.
I'm guessing you checked that NFC was turned on as well.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

NFC is turned on.
My card issuer supports Google Pay
I've uninstalled and re-installed the app but it's not working. Maybe if it's a brand new app it will sort itself with an update in the future.0 -
I had reservations about the Google wallet when I received an e-mail about it this week, having only recently added Google Pay to my phone and added my Debit Card (NOT Tesco as they are not allowed for some reason) and it worked successfully. Was pondering whether to download the wallet app or not and opened Google Pay for another reason only to find it had changed itself to Wallet with no issues whatsoever and the phone/card allowed me to pay.1

It could be your phone's NFC system that is not working.

It's not a new app, they have just renamed Google Pay to Google wallet and released an update with some interface changes.
Open the Wallet app, click show all at the bottom, click on your icon top right and then select contactless setup. Is everything in there OK?
You could install an NFC reader app to check that the phone is actually reading NFC cards.1
