OK, I stand corrected., although I suggested Speedfit for the tank overflow in the first place.
Compression fitting it is then for the PRV.

    Thanks all.

I'd be interested to learn if anyone knows the rules and regulations around the CH PRV? As, if that needs to be done by a qualified plumber by law, may as well just have them do the other one while they're up there, just a metre away!

If they don’t have upto date G3 ticket you can kiss your insurance goodbye
    And most gas engineers don’t.

Presumably a G3 allows you to work on things such as this then?

Why wouldn't they have one? Is it an expensive thing to obtain / renew?

G3 is surely only for pressurised DHW systems? Unvented tanks. LwM has a sealed CH system, but a vented DHW one.
LwM, with the best will, I think you've reached the end of this job as a DIYing task.
Are you capable of taking a 15mm copper piper from that PRV, down the sloping roof, out the soffit, and terminating it in a manner that's within the regs? Ie, pointing down within a few inches of the ground, or bending back towards the wall?

Well, I can plan and place pipework neatly. I can bend pipe. I can solder. Guess it's whether I should / allowed to... and doing it with the right pipework and fittings.

Didn't realise an overflow pipe (or, pipes) could be this much headache!

If you are 'competent' enough to do it, you can do it.

For some work it isn't just having the competence, it may be unlawful to carry out the work on a DIY basis.

plumb1_2 thinks this G3 work. Nobody has provided evidence that it isn't.

My own POV is that whether it is or isn't restricted work, given the pipe could be carrying water/steam at or above boiling point (and possibly at pressure) - and it would be above the heads of me and my family in the rooms below - I wouldn't take the risk with my DIY skills and would get a professional to check the system over and modify the relief pipe.

In terms of 'competence' - this thread has demonstrated much diversity of opinion on what the 'thing' is, what the pipe does, and what materials can be used in its replacement.

TBH Laurence would be ill-advised to embark on this as a DIY on the strength of the advice received in this thread.  If the people advising aren't sure what they are talking about, then Laurence doesn't stand a chance.

The ol' 'competence' chestnut. If someone installs this and it cascades super-heated water on to a passer-by's head, then that person clearly wasn't competent. And will be in deep doo-doo.

Don't mind having a plumber come in and take it out of my hair!

To clarify, the overflow pipe coming out of the expansion vessel, it needs to come out of the fascia, then divert / direct back into the external face of the property, so as to not cause harm to others?
