Double MPG
Sorry if this is a daft question, but I'm looking to replace our 2007 Merc B Class for 2016 Nissan Qashqai.
The Qashqai apparently has an MPG of around 70 MPG while the B Class is around 35. Would this literally mean our fuel costs would half, everything else being equal?
The B Class is petrol, the Qashqai diesel.
Thanks

That seems rather high MPG. Whether you can achieve this will depend on what type of journeys you do. Honest John says average 45 MPG. https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/nissan/qashqai-2014

I had a '65 Qashqai 1.5 diesel. I'm a gentle driver and my average MPG was in the mid-50's, low 60's on a long run.

Diesel is also a bit more expensive, so your fuel costs won't quite cut in half.0

Depends where and how you drive.

No, not really. Everything else isn't equal; diesel is more expensive than petrol, quoted MPG figures are optimistic at best (diesel even more so), driving style will effect MPG more with diesel than petrol. So yes, you'll see an improvement, but don't expect miracles.XEO25 said:Sorry if this is a daft question, but I'm looking to replace our 2007 Merc B Class for 2016 Nissan Qashqai.

The other factor is what sort of driving you do, if it's a lot of long distances then you'll see much more benefit than if you take many short journeys around town.

Remember the quoted MPG is always in best conditions, you might get, theoretically, 70mpg with an empty car, perfectly inflated tyres, cruising at 62 on the motorway for 3 hours for example but you wouldn't get that driving locally to the shops every day. I'd also suggest looking at the mileage of the car, a 2016 that has done low mileage might be used for supermarket / school runs and have done some serious wear to the engine0

Also factor in potential extra cost on consumables for a diesel, especially DPF and associated sensors.0

Maybe the starting point would be what do you get in your B class vs the quoted figures ?0
