Doggy doodoo

Options
My block of last has a huge communal garden.  The first bit immediately outside my flat and next door is demised to each of us.  Next door have fenced their bit. I haven’t and have no wish to do so.

They let their dog out for a bit of a run in the communal are and often don’t supervise it.  Result - crap.  When told about it they do clear it up.  What particularly irritates me is that it has taken to crapping in my bit of garden.  Any suggestions as to how to deter it?  Obviously once it’s decided that my bit of grass is an ideal toilet it keeps on returning to the same spot.

Googling will bring up a number of suggestions. I can't speak to their effectiveness.

    Are your flats rented?

Ta, must be using the wrong terms in my Google searches!

We are both leaseholders.  I don’t particularly like the neighbours, but I don’t want to fall out with them either.  The dog is quite sweet, though more or less untrained, certainly no recall.

I would just deposit it back in their fenced off area , bagged or unbagged

I agree or if your are ok to say to them that because you don't have have access to poop bags and you don't want to put it in to your bin that you will just use your spade and pop in back over the fence.

I'm guessing you don't want to go down this route, but just so you know the 'legal' position...

Either the lease allows the neighbour to have a pet, or the freeholder has given the neighbour consent to keep a pet at their flat.

But there will almost always be a condition that the pet mustn't cause annoyance to other leaseholders. So if you complain to the freeholder that the poop in your garden is causing you annoyance - the freeholder will probably tell them they can no longer keep a dog at their flat.

I guess you could try suggesting to the neighbour that unless they solve the problem, you'll report it to the freeholder, and they'll probably be told that they can't have a dog.

But I guess the challenge is finding a way of approaching that without spoiling neighbourly relations.

Other cats stopped doing their business in our garden after our Queen marked her territory (our youngest girl maintains this position). We were last to move into a new build on our estate.
Maybe mark your garden as your territory?

Do you have a sympathetic dog warden who would have a word with them?

Unfortunately, dogs tend to mark over other dogs scent.

No idea if it’ll work for dogs but if a cat is using the one spot on my garden chilli powder soon stops it. Problem is, it may just move to somewhere else in your garden.
Your options would seem to be either fencing off your bit, or tackling the neighbours about letting the dog out unsupervised. I don’t think there’s a middle ground here that’s going to be particularly effective.
