Today my Google Pay app was replaced with Google Wallet on my Android phone. It all seemed to update seamlessly.
I also received my new NatWest Visa Mastercard debit card replacing the NW Mastercard Visa debit card in the post. I then added this to the Google wallet by scanning the card details onto my phone. It asked me to enter the cvv number and said I would receive a text with a confirmation code, quoting the last 3 digits of my mobile number.
No text arrived so I requested another which did not arrive. However I had an audible notification each time which I then checked. These had actually been notifications from NatWest with the confirmation code, which I used to successfully complete the card registration on Google Wallet.
It is rather disconcerting to be told I would receive a confirmation by text only to receive it by another delivery method.

Title edited to include NatWest as well as Google and correct my Visa / Mastercard mistake.

Well at least it sorted your problem out, seems to me the small issue is really with the bank not with Google Wallet.1

It wasn't a problem, merely a moment of confusion.Murmansk said:Well at least it sorted your problem out, seems to me the small issue is really with the bank not with Google Wallet.
It doesn't really matter whether is was Google Wallet or NatWest. They clearly are both involved in the process.
Hopefully this thread will help others if confronted with a similar situation.
Edit. @Murmansk , I have just seen that my thread title does give the impression that I am saying it is a Google Wallet issue.
I will amend the title to include NatWest.0 -
I agree, this is not good practice. If it were the other way around (expecting push notification in app, but got SMS), then it would raise alarm bells. That's just one step away from 'click this link to log in and approve'... It is not helpful for people to get used to being put through a security step that's slightly different than what was stated. It sounds like some text needs to be updated following an upgrade of the authorisation system.1

I agree. Google does appear to be pervading several areas of our lives without keeping us informed.
Now it appears that NatWest, and probably the other banks as well, are joining in this trend.0 -
My google pay disappeared yesterday and I can see it's been replaced with google wallet. All my cards just seem to port over. I was quite happy with google pay but I guess there are supposed to be advantages with the wallet.0

I got an email a couple of days ago alerting me to the impending upgrade to google wallet, so I can't complain on that front. The highlight as described in the email was enhanced privacy settings (would you believe). It also allows you to add loyalty cards, tickets, boarding passes etc, apparently. For me, it will probably remain an app I hardly ever open, but which springs into action when I hold my phone to a POS terminal.Cressida100 said:My google pay disappeared yesterday and I can see it's been replaced with google wallet. The update about this confused me, as Google Pay supported these already.masonic said:

Interesting, I thought Natwest Group were phasing out all Visa Debit cards... the only ones I know of which are still being issued as Visa's are the oddball Child's/Drummond's/Holt's RBS ones. Or did you mean the inverse?RG2015 said:I also received my new NatWest Visa debit card replacing the NW Mastercard debit card in the post.1 -
