Aiming to be mortgage free before I am 62!

  • I have added up my savings pot so feel a little more like I am making progress. I am just not getting anywhere as it is split multiple ways.
I think I have tended to dip into the EF rather than the house pot so I need to be clearer with myself on that.
I also dipped into the holiday fund as a friend invited a few of us to her villa in Portugal for October half term so we only needed to pay for flights and car hire.  It is lovely being able to say yes to things like that and have money ready to transfer straight away.

I also use my side hustle to pay for the dog walker.  Annoyingly, after saying they could be flexible around me not needing them for the summer holidays, they messaged a couple of weeks ago and said they couldn't hold her place for September so still need to find somebody well priced for next academic year.  I have left the side hustle account with £200 in so I am ready to pay for September dog walking once it is back up and running.

  • Yesterday was a bit of a spending day, well, a lot of a spendy day if I am being honest.  However, I have done all the back to school shopping for the ‘youngest’ to go into Year 11 so at least I feel organised :)

had a bit of a lazy day today but updated my budget tracker and topped up the savings. My mortgage is annoyingly slow to come out so will update my signature once that come out.

  • Another signature update.
Have been paid for the exam marking so that has gone into the savings pots. It is nice to see the grand total so I feel I am getting somewhere and the house pot is looking quite healthy (unlike the house itself, which feels like it is falling apart!)
The emergency fund is at least starting to build a little and I may be able to get back to the mortgage overpayments at the end of the year (although I do overpay each month with my direct debit being rounded up to the old payment figure).
The middle child is in deep with the car hunt and it is refreshing watching him try to work within his budget.  I feel quite proud there isn't even a little question in his mind about whether he should boost the budget by getting car finance.  I love that he has taken on my way of battling through and is in line with my current mindset, not the old debt riddled me!
