Amazon market place sellers

Options
I have noticed this a while back, there are numerous sellers on Amazon putting everyday products up but you have to order a minimum of 2. Now they clearly state free delivery then when you add to the basket they are then adding ridiculous amounts like 19.99  24.99 for delivery now surely this is misleading, and the sellers are giving a lot of negative reviews due to this. If you have the Amazon app you can just swipe to buy but then not realising you will get charged extra. How are they getting away with this.

  • They get away with this because their charges are transparent on the checkout page unless you use the Amazon 'convenience' feature of swipe to buy.
This feature only exists to facilitate impulse buys, it'd be up to you to track down what you spent the money on when the card statement arrives, most likely the two week distance selling timeout will have lapsed as well.

There isn't a single good intention that a devious mind can't twist to their own benefit.

The "minimum order 2" is becoming more common and is annoying but I've never seen "free delivery" that then adds a delivery charge, can you share an example of such a product?

Here's one that almost caught me out last week:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lindt-Excellence-70-dark-chocolate/dp/B00A8DM8N6/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2LEAV94DBSN7L&keywords=lindt+70+dark+chocolate&qid=1658572523&sprefix=lindt+70,aps,99&sr=8-5

    Clearly marked as free delivery.

Add the required minimum of 2 bars to your basket:

then go to your basket to pay and the P&P of £19.99 has been added:

As soon as you change the quantity to 2 it changes the delivery price to £19.99 so it still tells you twice before yoy check our. Looks like it might just be some sort of glitch. Have you pointed it out to amazon?
  • That particular seller should surely be reported to Amazon?
If you visit their storefront, everything is "free delivery".
    I did a trial purchase (no I didn't complete it) for 2 x Surf detergent - postage added at checkout - £29.99!

This, it tells you as soon as you select 2 and that's before you add to basket so it's very clear.

I'm a reasonably seasoned shopper and my BS alarm would be in overdrive at the apparent offer of a decent sized bar of well known luxury chocolate for 49p including postage!

I was just looking at 1kg peanut m+ms priced at £1.99 with free delivery thought it was cheap, usually buy at £4.99. Same happened with them minimum purchase was two, Selected two and changed to £29 delivery.

The thing that very nearly caught me out was it had the 'Last purchased on xx:xx:xxxx view your order' at the top of the page, so I thought I was ordering from Amazon like usual and 22k reviews. I've never bought from this 3rd party seller before so the merge in pages made me think it was my normal order. Luckily I read it before purchasing.

    Listing

    Main item page

    With 1 selected free delivery

    With 2 selected £29 delivery

The Amazon site is at fault, if you must buy 2 then showing the price for 1 is pointless. Amazon are at fault for allowing the process to occur in the first place, they delist your items if they are too expensive so should be able to do the same for silly expensive shipping.

It's also only obvious on the product if you use the buy box offer, if you use the Other Sellers on Amazon links the site will add two to the basket without displaying the shipping cost for 2 and you then only see the shipping at Checkout.

I don't know if 1 click ordering still exists and works with the Other Sellers on Amazon section?

That seller is deliberately manipulating the system to catch people out but then again are being punished for it through the feedback.  Why don’t people check sellers feedback first?  Too flipping impatient some people.

Mind you, I don’t know how the seller is getting away with charging such high shipping prices? As a marketplace seller I’ve been warned for far more realistic shipping prices than that in the past!
