Hotel cost doubled

Hello. I booked a 4 night stay in Copenhagen (non-refundable) pre- pandemic. Haven't been able to go, but tried to rebook for October. The hotel are now asking for a further £300+ on top of the £360 we paid initially. This extra cost makes it prohibitive and we cannot go. They have refused a refund. Do I have any recourse at all? Thank you 😊

Did you book direct or via an agent?
Was the hotel open on the original dates of travel?

When were you originally due to travel?  Were you unable to go because of Covid restrictions, or was it for an unrelated reason?

Nearly all hotel prices these days are dynamic, very few hotels use a fixed room per night price.  It's very hard to compare a cost 3 years ago to a cost now, given that the same hotel room can vary in price considerably from one day to the next.

It sounds like you took a credit note/voucher to the value of your original non-refundable booking?  If so there's probably very little you can do other than explore other dates where rates might be more reasonable?

Only caveat as the posters above touch on is that if the hotel was closed on your original booking dates, you would have been due a refund.

Just to point out that's past tense (Bagand has explained perfectly though).

If you have accepted a non-refundable voucher, this is generally not convertible to cash.
