received the email regarding outlook 2010 ceasing soon.  just need some guidance as what to do next. i followed their links but end up at at a paid for  microsoft 645 or whatever it is.
am only a home user, the software was provided by some kind users on here.i like to use outlook rather than go online to outlook.com to access emails.
my pc doesn't have some requirements needed to update to windows 11.
where do i go from here? should i be finding what i need to upgrade to windows 11,  should i move to outlook version 2013 for the year, is there a free version of outlook? advice gratefully received.

I haven't run a Windows PC/Laptop for quite a while, but when I did I moved all my emails to Thunderbird to get away from the Microsoft ecosystem.

    Pardon?  What email?

The program won't stop working but as time passes various bits of it will continue to break and somewhere down the line (probably a good few years or so) it will stop connecting to any email servers.

Windows 11 has nothing to do with this.

Outlook alternatives: Thunderbird is probably the closest equivalent.

  • If you like Outlook / Office suite then this will keep you going for a long time, the cheapest option other than a free email client as suggested above.

I use both Thunderbird and EM client. I have two emails - ntlworld.com and googlemail.com and am only using EM Client because my googlemail does not work with Thunderbird. Both are free but Thunderbird is better(as long as you can get it to work with your email)

the email was regarding modern authentication which is not supported by outlook 2007 and 2010, emails can be read online but will no longer be able to send and receive.

If your on Windows 10, just use the built in "mail" app...no need to faff with anything else
