Standing charges doubled
Ofgem reasons..
1)transfer of clients who were with companies that failed?
Why like the airline business was this allowed to happen all these companies including the big six should have been paying into a fund to prevent this scenario why are we paying for it, who let this happen? Ofgem!
2}Maintenance of the lines has suddenly went up
So we now pay them twice for our energy rise!
3) For Green levies and warm home discount..
Government need to take a hit on this or find another way to raise this as energy is a basic need for people and should never be used to raise funds
4) Vat at 5%
Why is that not being scrapped they can see what people are struggling to make ends meet but wait a minute the prices are rocketing so if prices treble our 5% is trebling also absolutely disgraceful and nothing being done for hard working people!

Did you benefit from having any credit protected when a supplier went bust?0

There is no way to "prevent this scenario" of companies going bust, other than to stop forcing them to sell their product below cost. If you mean securing consumer credits then this happens either before or after the fact, the way it is run for energy it only happens when a company goes bust, for airlines it happens before they go bust, either way the consumer pays, the only difference is the timing.Williamwilbur said:Standing charges doubled

Maintenance did not "suddenly went up", maintance costs rose slightly, some of these were caused by inflation, others were by higher than average storm damage, but this component of the SC was minimal. You are not paying twice, you just do not understand the system.Williamwilbur said:2}Maintenance of the lines has suddenly went up

We are "the government" in this respect, either they are paid for by a charge on energy, or on general taxation. So either VAT, income tax, NI, CT need to go up, which also seems to annoy people, or they stay on energy bills. At the moment energy bills seems the fairest way. I suspect that when you mean that they should be taken off of energy bills, what you really mean is that you do not want to pay them, but would like them to be put onto a tax that someone else pays, but one which you do not pay.Williamwilbur said:3) For Green levies and warm home discount..

Why should it be scrapped? The government needs income to operate (ignoring situations such as printing money and the complexities of taxation, government spending and the inflationary impact of fiscal policy), that needs to come from tax or borrowing. We have already borrowed far too much and our debt repayments are huge. Of course the revenue from a percentage increases if the value increase, that is the basics of percentages.Williamwilbur said:4) Vat at 5%

Well other than the handouts that range from £450-1650 per household, do you mean that "nothing"?Williamwilbur said:and nothing being done
"Hard working people" is a meaningless phrase, just as "hard working families" or any "hard working" group of people. It is a phrase designed to engender an emotional response, rather than to look at the facts involved.Williamwilbur said:for hard working people!8 -
re green levies and 5% VAT -IF you believe Ms Truss - who seems favourite to be PM - then these will be "removed".
HOWEVER, IF you are an old cynic like me .................................0 -
Liz Truss's command of economics and figures is worse than that of my five year old nephew's. She might remove them as a nod to the hard right and climate change deniers in the Conservative party, but she lacks the capacity to recognise the wider implications of her actions.brewerdave said:re green levies and 5% VAT -IF you believe Ms Truss - who seems favourite to be PM - then these will be "removed".

No unfortunately like alot of others paying the price for mismanagement of the system,GingerTim said:Did you benefit from having any credit protected when a supplier went bust?0 -
Millions did - and without the addition onto the standing charge they would all have been out of pocket.Williamwilbur said:

So you prefer paying extra for your energy in case companies fail rather than paying it afterwards because they failed? I think other people would disagree with you here.Williamwilbur said:1)transfer of clients who were with companies that failed?
