Morning
Very pleased to see the rain today bring it on. Grass was so dry and brown hopefully it will enjoy its soaking and grow again. My friend the lawn man has given up mowing but taken to shrub chopping so my back jungle looks sort of acceptable now.
Good news yesterday. After 2 years of a court case they have ruled my car was miss sold as an eco model when we know lots more about diesel nowadays. I loved that car. No regrets but as it was part of a mass compensation award I won't turn my nose up at the money. Quite a bit surprisingly. Its a cheque so want to cash it and keep for taxis to and from mum
Off to mums house for a few days next week
Have a good day all sorry I have been neglectful but the heat really floored me13 -
Morning all, yes raining here too Nels, can't remember the last time it did. Typically today was the day DH & co were meant to be putting roof velux windows in on their job so he's had to go & get other materials to get on with something else.Camelot sounds like you had a nice family day RR enjoy your day off.Maddie hope your tum is better soon.Had a call from one of my friends yesterday, she's in hospital again with breathing difficulties , cellulitis & other probs. I only see her every few weeks & had told her I couldn't really go out when DH knee was very bad. Was just thinking about ringing to arrange something for next week when she rang from hospital. She's stable atm but I think will be in for a while yet.I've got the bread maker on as DS & DGS called after footie training and had lots of toast so there's only a bit left. I have cut bread out so it usually lasts longer with just the 2 menfolk eating it normally.Nanny I'm fed up with the same kind of meals just recently too and last night I fished some chilli out of the freezer. I have some chicken thighs that will need cooking by tomorrow so might well be them. Both DGC finish school early today, poor DGD was meant to be going away yesterday with her other grandparents but her new passport didn't arrive on time
despite efforts on their part. Nearly 3 months since it was sent off, so she was really upset last night
I am making good progress with my sorting, trouble is I'll be tripping over the pile collecting in the kitchen soon. Need to get it taken to the CS soon.Take care all x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)10 -
Morning all, I was up and out to the sm before 8am and seem to have missed 2 downpours, one before we went out and one whilst shopping, but it's still muggy and we are promised a day of thunderstorms. The washing I did yesterday wasn't quite dry when I brought it in but it's been on the airer overnight and should be dry now so I'll put it away later.
I went to get some food for the DGC for next week as they're staying Sun to Thurs as DD and SIL are going to Belfast but you'd think the DGC were staying for a month with all the stuff we bought, anyway if it doesn't get used next week it will eventually. Sadly there were no custard creams for DGS 😱 the biscuit aisle looked as if a swarm of locusts had descended upon it !
The shopping is still bagged, except the freezer stuff while I'm having a coffee, I'll shift myself to sort it and put it away in a minute. Later I want to dust and hoover through the downstairs. I need to take the sofa cushions off too and hoover under them, I don't know where all the little bits come from.
Nels good news about the money.
Maddie hope your tummy gets better asap.
Rosy sending healing vibes to your friend. I've been shopping today but I still have no idea what to have for tea ! 🤔
NMLC enjoy your time off.
RedRuby good luck with your new clients
Camelot blimey you sound like you have the house full. Poor little one, it's heartbreaking when they want to stay, but can't.
Apologies if I haven't commented on some posts but Mr Fix It is yakking away in my ear and I can't think !
Have a good day everyone.
Take care and hugs to all.

Morning..Off to Wales today to plan the trip,or should that be 'The Trip' with my sister and go shoping for some stuff we need to fix certain areas, like netting to keep the pigeons out from the loft etc. I'm going to have to get my tools collated to sort what needs sorting too. Anyway, didn't do anything much yesterday but optician has agreed there's a problem with the contacts, not my eyes, and will order new ones to pick up and try. I think they just forgot to add in the bit that stops the astigmatisms from being too bad. And it's not plantar that's wrong with my feet, this time luckily, I remember the pain from that, like walking on glass shards slicing up your feet, no no no. No, this time it's the recurring ankle problem. If I do too much, the next day it just doesnt want to work, it does ease off through the day but I keep forgetting and forging ahead doing stuff. But the doing stuff has worked because this week, weighing a day early I've lost 2lb. If this keeps going I'll be a skinny minny by March next year..or the year after with the addition of regular cheese!
TA, you sent me to a rabbithole of new sticks, enjoy your spanking new one! NRA, congratulations on your impedning retirement! My parents always said they don't know how they found time to work after a few months...dp1, continued wishes for improvement for you. Nels, happy new healthier bank balance day
Nanny, I made a mistake and put some washing out yesterday too, it's still there now, gently damp...Have a good day folks, enjoy being cooler!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi10 -
Afternoon all. Yesterday's promised afternoon sunshine never arrived and it was very muggy and airless all day. Underfoot this morning the ground looked quite damp so I think it may have rained a bit overnight. Today is dull and cooler but not cold.
The usual Friday admin has been done and our latest monthly energy bill has arrived. The total was £41.73 but only £25.41 of that was for actual energy used, the rest was VAT and standing charges. Grr. On the bright side, our credit balance has grown but on the downside we only have 6 weeks left on our fixed plan. Our original intention was to default to the SVR but we've decided on another 12 months fix as we would only get one month at the current SVR price cap rate before that goes up again in October. Even though we'll be paying a heck of a lot more than now, it will still be cheaper than the predicted new price cap and there are no exit fees, should we want to move if anything cheaper comes along. Somehow, I doubt that very much!
I've stripped the bed and hung out the sheets that should hopefully dry even though there's no sun or wind. Bed re-made after a quick dust/hoover around.
I've also had a conversation with our upstairs neighbours about their boiler that seems to be broken. Their overflow pipe is dripping water down onto our meter box; the water is splashing onto the outside wall and making the inside of our pantry wall damp and musty smelling. Apparently they know there's a problem and are waiting for an engineer to come "asap". I hope that's sooner rather than later!
Last night's sweet & sour chicken was OK but the sauce was on the (very) peppery side and not what we expected at all. I think the manufacturer must have changed the recipe. Tonight we're having hm battered cod fillet with a few chips and a piece of vanilla cheesecake for afters.. My next job is to do a meal plan for the coming week, followed by an online grocery order for next Tuesday. Frozen and pantry stocks are fine but we're fast running out of fresh foods so I hope the SM stocks will have been replenished by then.
Get well wishes for the poorlies and virtual hugs to anyone wanting or needing one. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.9
