It's certainly the foundation; however you need to give careful thought to your general interview technique, specific examples of why you should be given the job, specific examples of things you've achieved. You've got to sell yourself without appearing creepy. You can't help it if someone turns up on the day who can offer more/better, but you can present yourself in the best way possible and use the experience you gain to do even better next time. One of these days you'll clinch it.

What skills do you have that are not related to the job you currently do?
What do you have to do to get where you want to be?
