Hi folks, just wondering if any of you would be willing to check over my circumstances and perhaps offer an opinion on what I might need?
I am in the process of buying a property, mortgage of £90k approx with 25 year term. No partner but one dependent child (shared custody with ex), mid 30s, good health. I need to work out what my requirements are for life insurance and critical illness cover, if any, relative to my circumstances.
I work in local government, employment contract states sick pay is paid full rate 3 months / half rate 3 months then statutory sick pay.

I am a member of the LGPS. My death in service grant was forecast to be approx £77k in March 2021 (will be a bit higher now as have moved up a pay increment and also have had a “cost of living” increase since). In event of ill health I’ve forecast I would receive £22k per year if
I am retired on medical grounds tier 1, reducing to £8k tier 2 or £3.5k tier 3.
Other savings - £25k accessible in ISAs and £6k other cash to hand. This would cover my basic living expenses for approx 3 years if push came to shove.
I also have a SIPP approx £14k. I’m a committed saver these days so would expect these totals to continue increasing over time.
What would you do in my shoes?
With thanks in advance!
