@magpies79 With respect to questions on a mortgage application about CCJs, the relevant date is the date that it was registered. So the only scenario in which you would answer 'Yes' would be if the lender asked 'have you ever had a CCJ'.

Oh right just trying to work out if I’m actually any better off that it’s actually a really old ccj as I had no intentions of trying to pay off early and just keep paying £20 a month.

does it depend on the lender or is the question always have you ever had CCJ it’s been well over 20 years since I went for a mortgage back then think it just ask if had one in the last 6 years
    thanks for your reply

  • One thing I will say, is depending on what the £20 a month shows up on your bank statement as, an underwriter may question this.

if it shows up as obviously a debt payment, questions may be asked. They usually ask for 3-6 months of bank statements.

I don’t know any mortgage companies that I have come across that ask for info on debts over 6 years old - but you must be completely truthful and honest if they do. My advise is to get a good mortgage broker to look over your details etc and they’ll be best placed to let you know

@magpies79 Most lenders will not ask about CCJs over 6 years old, some will ask but even if you answer yes most likely not make a difference to the decision. A few smaller lenders may ask for details and factor that in to their decision making.

However, generally speaking, if the only issue you have is a 6+ year old unsatisfied CCJ, it's unlikely to be an issue with most mainstream lenders.

The £20 monthly payment should be entered in as a monthly debt outgoing from the outset.

Yeah I thought that to my brother pays it through his bank and I give him £20 cash so it’s no on my statements but I’m kinda getting the impression won’t make much difference as if they ask if I’ve ever had one I’ll obviously have to say yeah and declare it
    thanks again
