Hire vehicle company paid the fine, can I still challenge the PCN?

Hi,

I recently recived a notice from a vehicle hire company of a PCN in london where I was driving a van. On the PCN it says I drove in to a box junction and stopped however on the image you can clearly see I have stopped before the marked box, the bumper of the van isn't even in the box yet.

The hire company have already paid the fine and are transferring the cost over to me however I want to challenge the PCN and view the CCTV, can I still do this even though the hire company have already paid the fine? On the westminster website it says the case is already closed and won't let me view the CCTV.

Hmmm...not sure but probably under a SAR.  Try sending Westminster a SAR request for the footage.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

You may have some leeway with this being a council ticket, you should try asking on pepipoo as its a council ticket.

On a side note, there's something rotten in the hire industry with regards to parking tickets/ moving traffic offences etc, in how  hire company's often pay them, then charge the hirer plus add in a hefty admin charge. particularly when  combined with the methods used by private parking company's, and some councils taking the attitude of ticket first, then wait to see if the motorist asks questions later.

Possibly unfair term in the hire contract?
