Daughter leaving for uni

My daughter is going to be leaving for uni in September. I have received a child tax credit award saying that payments for her will stop on the 19th of September. But I haven't told them do I just leave it as is or do I tell them she's leaving after that.

Thanks kim

If she starts Uni in September then your tax credits should end at the end of August. If she's applied for student finance she will receive her first loan payment once she starts Uni. You'll need to ring them to report the changes.

I will ring them and child benefits. I am in a three bed council house we don't pay any council tax because she was classed as a student. My next problem with be having a extra bedroom after she leaves. She will be coming back during holidays but I wanted to put my youngest son in that room.
He has a genetic condition and has servere learning disabilities do you think I would be able to apply for the special circumstances for having the extra room for him.

    Thanks

For the extra bedroom then it will depend on whether they class the family home as her main residence. Others maybe more knowledgable on this than i am. When my daughter left for Uni she moved 300 miles away and lived with her partner so those rules didn't apply to me at the time.

DWP and HB guidance is very unclear on that and I think it varies depending on who makes the decision. Essentially if her belongings are still in the home she may well still be treated as still living there.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

The uni is Manchester met and it's about 30 miles away.  She w ill be coming back here in holidays her  accommodation is only 41 weeks or so. She said that the second year will be different accommodation and might not be coming back. But by next September my other son will be nearly 16 and then he would be entitled to his own room according to the council. I know I will have to downgrade the house at some point but the 2 bedrooms house are more rent then what I am in now. Been in this 15 years and not been moved to uc yet. So trying to delay that as long as possible.
I might contact the council early.

    Thanks
