Exactly this. The initial response by MB is, as I said, naturally overcautious, once they've had time to look fully into the issue the testing process has been revised. Pretty much standard engineering practice imho.Grumpy_chap said:It seems like sound and natural progression of resolving an issue.
The potential is identified and there is a quick initial test, but it means lots of false positives.
With experience, a more refined inspection can be brought in that means quicker assessment and more through assessment so the number of false positives is reduces and cars can be put back into use quicker.1 -
A safety Recall is just that. Back in 1987 when I took on the role of Warranty Manager at a Ford dealers it was different to now. We spent many hours identifying owners and sending recall notices recorded delivery.
Ford were no different from other makes and eventually the whole thing was modernised but as today people ignored them.
They were actually listed as being an MOT fail if outstanding at test.
You do need to take notice that it is a SAFETY RECALL so it is not a matter for discussion - no matter what you may think. In this case should your brakes fail you could by ignoring it put your own and other lives at risk - ignore at your peril.

I would feel the same as you OP. Once advised something is wrong it's always going to be very difficult to think differently.
