HP110we - is it a printer or a toner contract with dodgy software?

Bought an HP 110we from Argos early June. Somehow got it installed without divulging my bank account details and it printed happily enough until my house-mate decided to print some documents from his laptop.
Disaster - now the printer is in fatal error mode - all it will print is test pages telling me to visit hp.com/plus-support - and noe of their instructions work.
I think this is not a printer at all - but a device for renting the act of printing from HP.
Not as though I am inexperienced at using Laser printers. I used HP Laserjet II and IIP machines at work in the early 1990s.
In 1994 I bough an HP Laserjet 4L for home use. It laster 20 years.
When that broke down I got an HP Laserjet 1102w - which lasted 8 years.
This M110we has lasted 6 weeks!
I am highly dissatisfied with this product, not least because I cannot now attend the BBC Proms season (tickets now have to be booked online and printed out). Buit I don't fancy my chances getting a refund from Argos. I don't want a repair or replacement HP printer.
Anything but HP!!!

It's not about what you want, within 6 months the fault is assumed to be inherent and the retailer gets to choose whether to refund, replace, or repair (although you can ask). Argos will probably sort this out for you quickly (if my experience with them is anything to go by).
Seems strange that you have decades of successful usage of HP and then, because of one problem, it has put you off HP?Past caring about first world problems.0 -
Just checked BBC proms site for you and it says
"If you book an e-ticket and are not able to print or display your ticket on a smartphone please email contact@royalalberthall.com before you arrive."Past caring about first world problems.1 -
Maybe you should be pointing a finger at your house mate and asking what they're did to connect to your printer.
As it's only a couple of of months old take it back to Argos and complain.1 -
Traditionally HP printers. especially the LaserJet, were top quality. However about 4 years ago HP Inc, bought the Samsung printer business lock stock and barrel. IMHO Samsung printers were never as good as the equivalent HP models. This is from direct experience, as I worked for a couple of years for Samsung supporting 3rd party developers on their printer range. I personally wouldn't buy a Samsung printer and since the acquisition would think twice about an HP printer now.0

Are you using HP Smart by any chance?
That drivers that it uses aren't always the best, or in some cases, compatible with the printer.0 -
Easy fix is either sign up for instant ink or buy HP cartridge yourself.0
