Do I need to renew my sons passport??

My sons passport is valid from 29th December 2017 and expires 29th April 2023.
I’m due to go on holiday on 21st October returning 7 days later on 28th October 2022.
The foreign office site states there must be 3 months left on a passport on the date you return from the EU country.
My question is will the passport now expire 29th December 2022 (5 years after issue) in which case he wouldn’t have 3 months left or am I ok to still travel with it?
I’ve tried ringing the passport office and they just direct me to the Gov website which isn’t much help!!
Thanks

The FCO advise is that it must be less than 10 years old on entry, given his passport was issued for 5 years and 4 months it wont trip the 10 year rule. Personally I'd be wanting more definitive answer too but the general principle is that you can unless told not to.1

No, it will not expire until the expiry date shown in the passport. It's a five year passport with the extra months, not an adult's ten year passport in which extra months would not be valid for EU travel..airmyncat5151 said:My question is will the passport now expire 29th December 2022
